What:

40-hour class based upon IFSTA “Fire and Emergency Services Company Officer,” 5th edition, designed to prepare the student to complete the job performance requirements (JPRs) contained in NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications (2014) for the position of Fire Officer, level I. This class includes about 20 hours of classroom instruction, 2 JPRs completed as pre-course work, 9 JPRs completed during the class and the remaining 4 JPRs finished after the class.

Who:

The target audience includes current and future company/chief officers seeking Colorado Division of Fire Prevention & Control (DFPC) certification. The minimum prerequisite qualification for this course is State certification as Fire Officer I requires current Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Operations, Fire Instructor I, and either Emergency Medical Service First Responder or higher EMS certification.

When:

October 6-8 & 13-14, 2022
Runs 8:00 am through 5:30 pm all days. Students can expect a rigorous schedule with instructor-led discussions, student activities and state-proctored JPR presentations, in addition to nightly reading and project assignments.

Where: Colorado Firecamp at the Ponderosa Lodge, 12 miles west of Salida, ½ mile north of U.S. Highway 50 on County Road 240.
Why: DFPC allows Fire Officer I JPRs to be evaluated within an approved training course, as an alternative to a candidate submitting a single documentation portfolio of all 15 JPRs.
Cost:

$700 — includes tuition, 3 nights of lodging, and meals. IFSTA student manual is required, but not provided by Firecamp.  A reduced charge is offered to member agencies of the Upper Arkansas Valley Wildfire Council and Headwaters Training Officers Association.
